 2010 Board of Directors
The Sylvania Recreation District (SAJRD) was formed in 1988 to provide the citizens of the Sylvania area with high quality recreational programs and facilities. The District is a collaboration between the City of Sylvania, Sylvania Township and Sylvania Schools. Each of these political entities appoints four people to the 12-person SAJRD Board. The District was formed under the Joint Recreation District provision (755.14) of the Ohio revised code. Under this provision, SAJRD can levy voter-approved taxes. Currently, SAJRD has two supporting levies. A .85 mill Permanent Operating levy was passed in 1988 and replaced in 2000. In addition, a .5 mill, 25 year Capital Improvement levy was passed in 1994. Millage on this levy has been reduced over time to .3 mills. It is the mission of the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District (S.A.J.R.D.) to provide high quality recreation and leisure facilities, parks, programs and activities to meet the demonstrated needs of all citizens who reside within the district through sound planning, efficient allocation of resources, and effective management.
Sylvania Recreation Corporation (SRC), was established in 1994 in order to develop top - notch recreational programs and facilities. The Sylvania Recreation District (SAJRD) funds SRC in addition to funds that are generated by program user fees. Since it's inception in 1988, program participation has grown by an incredible 200%. Outstanding recreational opportunities became a reality with the development of our 138 acre multipurpose sports turf facility, Sylvania Pacesetter Park. Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter is dedicated to providing a safe environment with high integrity, excellence, and hospitality. TAMO operates under the Sylvania Recreation District for the purpose of hosting and programming athletic and exhibition events coming into our community. It is the vision of Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter to market our facility to attract a wide variety of events and activities. Our vision is to work with local businesses and regional companies to make TAMO "The Venue" for their next event.
